MBA vs PGDM Course
People often confuse between MBA (Master of Business Administration) and PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) courses. These can be differentiated on the basis of affiliation of the college.MBA Course is offered by only those universities and colleges that are affiliated to Universities or Central Body directly under the Indian government. PGDM are offered by those colleges that are autonomous and are not affiliated by any University.
The colleges offering PGDM have a bit high fees structure.
PGDM - Post Graduate Diploma in Management. Yes, diploma. It is not a degree course, but don't need to get alarmed. Even the most renowned colleges in India offer PGDM as they are autonomous bodies and run independently like IIM's, XLRI , NDIM, IBS and many more.
The benefits of going for PGDM is that these colleges being independent can update their course syllabus and means of teaching in short intervals instead of running old outdated curriculum approved by the Central Body. The reason it is referred as outdated because it is modified in every 3 to 5 years which is a major time gap in the field of management. PGDM courses are more industry relevant.
Considering the career options for both MBA and PGDM candidates, there is no major differentiation between these two in India as well as globally. But if the student aims for higher studies globally an MBA degree will be more handy than a PGDM course. In this case also the difference is not that much but an MBA degree will definitely have an upper hand by 2-3 points over a PGDM course for higher studies.
